A standalone Wi-Fi module, Quectel’s FLM263D works with the Alexa Connect Kit (ACK) SDK for Matter, enabling rapid setup with Amazon Alexa. In addition to Alexa, the FLM263D allows IoT devices to connect seamlessly with other Matter-compliant smart home assistants, including Google Home, Samsung SmartThings, and Apple HomeKit.
Housed in a 17.3×15.0×2.8-mm LCC package, the 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi module also supports Bluetooth LE 5.2. Along with a built-in PCB antenna, it integrates a processor operating at up to 320 MHz, 512 kbytes of SRAM, and 4 Mbytes of flash memory.
Ben McInnis, director of Smart Home at Amazon, said, “We created ACK to make it simpler for device makers to build smart home devices with a fully-managed service without having deep expertise in multiple wireless protocols, complex cloud connectivity, and the necessary maintenance of cloud infrastructure. We are excited about this launch because Quectel’s FLM263D adds to ACK’s portfolio of available solutions and offers more choices for device makers.”
To protect connected devices, the FLM263D complies with WPA, WPA2, and WPA3 security standards, including secure boot and Mbed TLS encryption. The module offers five GPIOs that can alternatively function as PWM or I2C communication channels. It requires a 3.0-V to 3.6-V power supply and operates over a temperature range of -40°C to +105°C.
The FLM263D is particularly useful for smart light bulb applications. Quectel expects to roll out additional modules targeting smart switches, smart plugs, and other smart household devices.
